Read Bio

Bruce grew up in Auckland which included spending time on his father’s farms here and in Australia.  Bruce was a former Deputy Head Boy and full-time boarder at Kings College where, as a keen sportsman, he played rugby in the First XV and rowed in the first VIII for several seasons and as captain in his final year. He attended Canterbury University where he obtained his law degree in 1991. Over the next few years, he worked in several small legal practices which included working with Dail Jones in Kumeu before working for Wood Ruck & Co where he became an associate partner.

In May 1998, Bruce acquired the Wellsford based legal practice, then known as E Sellars & Co, when he became aware through the family grapevine that Peter and Gary Sellars wished to retire from the practice originally established by their father Ted. Ted Sellars and Bruce’s grandfather, Daniel were two brothers in a family of ten Sellars children all of whom grew up in Helensville and had strong connections with the Auckland, Helensville, Warkworth, Wellsford and Mangawhai areas. Bruce recognises the importance of this family connection and the need to continue to build on the Sellars family legacy including providing legal services to the communities in which we live and work.  Since the acquisition of what is now Sellars Law in 1998, Bruce has been involved in almost all aspects of the law practice and knows many of our longstanding clients on a personal level.

Bruce has a wide range of legal experience with a particular interest in property and farm matters including farm succession and family arrangements. On a daily basis, he works closely with accountants, bank representatives, farm consultants, surveyors and a range of other professional people and advisers.

Bruce lives on a lifestyle property in Whenuapai with his wife Rachel and their two teenage children. Both Rachel and Bruce are keen supporters of their children’s educational and sporting endeavours with many hours spent on the sideline at rugby and hockey games as well as at horse riding and rowing events. Rachel and Bruce also have a small farm at Tauhoa on which they run some cattle.
